Process Reimagination through Design Thinking for BNY Mellon Digital Assets Team

Experience Haus worked with the Digital Assets team in both New York and London to design, build and deliver a series of hands-on workshops and exercises to give attendees a fresh way of looking at how to find better ways to work both internally and externally with their clients.
THE TASK

BNY Mellon’s Digital Assets team sought to strengthen their internal collaboration and enhance their design thinking capabilities. With a focus on platform and product teams, the goal was to equip participants with a structured approach to the design process, emphasizing co-creation and pre-solutioning techniques. The objective was to ensure teams were aligned on the purpose and audience of the tools they develop before moving into solution-building.

ACTIONS

To meet these objectives, Experience Haus designed and delivered an immersive three-day workshop for approximately 26 team members. The curriculum was structured to cover the entire design process while fostering active engagement. A hands-on, interactive approach was central to the learning experience, incorporating:

  • Live case study exercises to reinforce real-world application
  • Pre-solutioning techniques to build alignment before tool implementation
  • Collaborative activities using A3 paper, post-it notes, and sketching
  • Exposure to industry tools, balanced with a focus on foundational problem-solving methodologies

By prioritizing experiential learning, the workshop enabled participants to practice and refine their design thinking skills in a structured and engaging way.

THE OUTCOME

By the end of the three-day session, participants had not only gained a strong understanding of the design process but had also applied their learnings to a live case study. This immediate application reinforced key principles and ensured tangible takeaways. Key outcomes included:

  • Enhanced team collaboration and co-creation skills
  • Stronger alignment on project purpose and target audience before solutioning
  • Practical experience with design thinking techniques that can be integrated into daily workflows
  • Greater confidence in problem-solving within the platform and product teams
