Designing AI Products for Deloitte Digital’s Experience and Service Design Team

Experience Haus worked with the Experience and Service Design team at Deloitte Digital in London to design, build and deliver an immersive two-day workshop equipping participants with the knowledge, frameworks and hands-on skills to research, design and build effective AI product implementations.
THE TASK

Deloitte Digital’s Experience and Service Design team recognised a growing need to build genuine AI capability within their practice. As AI becomes increasingly central to the products and services their clients expect to deliver, the team sought to move beyond surface-level familiarity and develop a structured, practical understanding of how to design and evaluate AI-based products. The goal was to equip designers with the language, mindset and tools to engage critically with AI — covering everything from ethical considerations and data preparation to rapid prototyping — so that they could bring informed, design-led thinking to AI initiatives across the organisation.

ACTIONS

Experience Haus designed and delivered a two-day immersive workshop for the Deloitte Digital team, structured to build capability progressively — from foundational understanding on day one through to hands-on application on day two. Delivered on site at Deloitte Digital’s offices in London, the programme combined short lecture sessions with extended workshop time, ensuring participants had immediate opportunity to practise what they were learning. The curriculum included:

  • An accessible introduction to machine learning, large language models and generative AI, grounded in real-world product and service examples
  • A design challenge requiring teams to map a problem space, identify AI opportunity areas, and define success through question storming, scenario planning and user journey mapping
  • A Data 101 session exploring how data powers AI products, including structured vs. unstructured data, bias, consent, and a hands-on data mapping activity covering inputs, processing and outputs
  • Completion of a data design document addressing human inputs, system prompts, feedback loops, data sources, ethical constraints and risks
  • A guided walkthrough of agentic AI prototyping platforms, followed by hands-on experimentation with prompting, iteration and integration to build functional AI prototypes
  • A closing session on designing for ambiguity, building user trust through transparency, and evaluating AI behaviour — culminating in team prototype demos and group reflection

Each activity was designed to be immediately applicable, ensuring participants left with practical outputs rather than theory alone.

THE OUTCOME

By the end of the two-day programme, participants had moved from foundational AI literacy through to building and presenting functional AI prototypes — a complete learning arc from curiosity to capability. The workshop gave the team a shared language and a set of reusable frameworks they could carry directly into their client work. Key outcomes included:

  • A working understanding of AI concepts, including machine learning, LLMs and generative AI, relevant to a service design context
  • Confidence in evaluating AI use cases and identifying where AI can genuinely add value within a product or service experience
  • Practical skills in data design, including how to map inputs and outputs, identify sources, and account for bias, consent and ethical risk
  • Hands-on experience building a functional AI prototype using agentic prototyping tools, with an understanding of prompting and iteration
  • A clearer sense of the designer’s role in shaping, testing and evaluating AI behaviour within real-world design workflows
WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT
The two days gave us a much more grounded understanding of what it actually means to design with AI. We came in familiar with the terminology but left with practical frameworks and a prototype we'd built ourselves — that shift from knowing about AI to working with it made all the difference.

Key Outcomes

By moving participants from conceptual understanding through to live prototyping, Experience Haus enabled Deloitte Digital's service designers to engage with AI not just as observers, but as active and confident practitioners — capable of shaping how AI is integrated into their team's design work and wider organisation.
